About me

Artem Honcharenko in a blue blazer

I am Artem Honcharenko, an ecologist with a PhD, Head of the Veterans Institute “Architecture of Resilience” at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUBA), and Barrier-Free Ambassador of Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science. I call myself an ecosystem builder: I bring universities, government, business and communities together to solve what none of them can solve alone.

My path

I was born on 1 July 1997. Ecology caught me at school: I studied at Kyiv’s Ecology and Natural Sciences Lyceum No. 116 and the Kyiv Junior Academy of Sciences. I then earned bachelor’s (2018) and master’s (2019) degrees in ecology with honours at KNUBA.

Alongside my studies I was building a business from 2014: I launched PATProfi, a studio that creates websites, apps and brands, and organised industry conferences for the construction market. Since 2020 I have been President of the International Technology Transfer Association (ITTA).

In 2022 the war changed my priorities. I led the Charitable Foundation for the Reconstruction and Development of Ukraine and the Ukraine Rebuilding Agency. With my team we created the mobile frontline hospitals project and delivered four clinics on wheels for the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kharkiv directions and a general-purpose unit.

In 2024 I became head of the KNUBA Veterans Institute. In 2025 I defended my doctoral thesis on climate risks in construction under wartime conditions and became the Ministry’s Barrier-Free Ambassador.

What I do now

  • Lead the Veterans Institute “Architecture of Resilience”: rehabilitation, education from short courses to PhD, employment and entrepreneurship for veterans and their families.
  • Develop the RE:Veterans Platform, a network of veteran development centres across 10 partner universities, together with the Veterans Cluster of Ukraine.
  • As the Ministry’s Barrier-Free Ambassador, implement decisions of the national Barrier-Free Council and chair the expert group that audits accessibility of KNUBA buildings.
  • Every Monday, speak to community leaders on the “Solutions Supermarket” platform of the Association of Small Towns of Ukraine.
  • Teach at KNUBA’s Department of Environmental Protection Technologies and Occupational Safety, and head the Ecology section of the Kyiv Junior Academy of Sciences.
  • Chair ITTA and the Coordination Council of the NAMIR Ukraine Foundation.

How I work

I create partnerships that make sense, build trust, and deliver results together with people. I see opportunities where others see risks, and turn ideas into real solutions. I build for the long run, not for the moment.

What matters to me: trust, strategy, focus, strong people, responsibility and discipline.

Beyond work

Our team has an unofficial ambassador: Rem, a French bulldog. He shows up in many of my photos and reminds us that even serious work has room for warmth.
